A traveler, photographer & storyteller

I'm Valbona — a naturopathic doctor turned full-time travel storyteller, based in Chicago. Travel has always been my second language; I've been speaking it fluently since my first solo trip through Europe in 2014.

I believe the best travel experiences come from genuine connections with locals and immersing yourself in their culture — not ticking off tourist checkboxes. My goal is to show you a world that's richer, more welcoming, and more surprising than any guidebook lets on.

How It All Began

2014
First Solo Adventure

What began as a solo trip to Europe turned into a life-changing journey that ignited a deep passion for authentic travel and reshaped how I saw the world.

2016
Started Travel Consulting

Having visited over 15 countries, I began helping friends plan adventures. Casual advice grew into a full consulting service — and people kept coming back.

2019
Launched Free Spirit VB

I launched this platform to share my travel stories, photography, and lessons from the road. A personal blog grew into a community of thousands.

2022
Expanded into Digital Products

After countless requests, I created Lightroom presets and travel planning templates — every product comes from personal experience and years on the road.
